A Random Walk Model for Dark Matter Halo Concentrations

نویسندگان

چکیده

For idealized (spherical, smooth) dark matter halos described by single-parameter density profiles (such as the Navarro–Frenk–White profile), there exists a one-to-one mapping between energy of halo and scale radius its profile. The therefore uniquely determines concentration parameter such halos. We exploit this fact to predict concentrations via random walk in space. Given full merger tree for halo, total internal each that is determined summing orbital energies progenitor show that, when calibrated, model can accurately reproduce mean concentration–mass relation measured N-body simulations reproduces more scatter than previous models. further test examining both autocorrelation radii across time correlations spin, comparing them results from cosmological simulations. In cases, we find our closely matches results. Our implemented within open-source Galacticus toolkit.

Dark matter halo concentrations in the WMAP5 cosmology

We use a combination of three largeN -body simulations to investigate the dependence of dark matter halo concentrations on halo mass and redshift in the WMAP year 5 cosmology. The median relation between concentration and mass is adequately described by a power-law for halo masses in the range 10 − 10 hM⊙ and redshifts z < 2, regardless of whether the halo density profiles are fit using NFW or ...

The Power Spectrum Dependence of Dark Matter Halo Concentrations

High-resolution N-body simulations are used to examine the power spectrum dependence of the concentration of galaxy-sized dark matter halos. It is found that dark halo concentrations depend on the amplitude of mass fluctuations as well as on the ratio of power between small and virial mass scales. This finding is consistent with the original results of Navarro, Frenk & White (NFW), and allows t...

Weighing the Dark Matter Halo

The dark matter problem will be solved only when all of the dark matter is accounted for. Although wimps may be discovered in direct detection experiments soon, we will not know what fraction of the dark matter halo they compose until we measure their local density. In this talk, I will offer a novel method to determine the mass of a wimp from direct detection experiments alone using kinematica...

Microlensing Implications for Halo Dark Matter

The French collaboration EROS and the American-Australian collaboration MACHO have reported the observation of altogether ∼ 10 microlensing events by monitoring during several years the brightness of millions of stars in the Large Magellanic Cloud. In particular the MACHO team announced the discovery of 8 microlensing candidates by analysing their first 2 years of observations. This would imply...

Did VV 29 collide with a dark Dark-Matter halo?

Westerbork Radio Synthesis Telescope observation of the galaxy VV 29=Arp 188=UGC 10214 shows that there are at least three distinct dynamical components whose kinematics can be traced in 21cm line emission. The system appears to be the result of a galaxy-galaxy interaction. We identify a sufficient number of dynamical elements containing baryons (stars and neutral gas) that there is no compelli...
